Course Description

Real Estate Appraisal gives you an overview of both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, with an emphasis on residential appraisal practices. Real Estate Appraisal will provide you with a solid understanding of the following topics: the eight steps of the appraisal process, architectural styles, construction methods and materials, collection and analysis of appraisal data, analyzing the highest and best use of a property, estimating cost and depreciation, selecting and analyzing comparable properties, the three methods of appraisal, and preparing appraisal reports.

This course has three components:

First, the ETUDES-NG component. The ETUDES-NG portal functions as a place where you will access the syllabus, receive announcements, assignments, and communicate to me and other students through the ETUDES discussion. You will also be able to communicate with your fellow classmates and submit discussion response assignments via the discussion section. Strongly suggested!

Second, is the Rockwell Publishing portion of the course,

(www.rockwelleducation.com ). Here, you will access the core content of the course. You will listen and view the online interactive presentations, and take chapter quizzes. To keep you mindful of current worldly events that relate to real estate appraisal, discussion responses will be assigned to apply textbook concepts to real-time real estate matters.

Third, the Classroom component:

Attendance is required each Sunday meeting. These meetings may be comprised of: group discussions, questions, audio/visual enrichment materials and student &/or instructor –created power point presentations. These are all sourced in our text and online modules. Sunday meetings may include guest speakers.

This class will depend a lot on your commitment to keep up with the assigned readings in your textbook and weekly quizzes. Before you begin, make sure you have completed the Etudes-NG orientation. That way, you will be more familiar with navigating through the many features of this course.

The classroom component requires your physical presence at West Los Angeles College for six Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will be required to apply online learning to real-life situations during these Sunday meetings.
